STS Dual-FH40G Meter

Simulated Contamination & Survey Meter

Unique to the STS range, the Dual FH40G Simulator offers users the ability to use either the internal simulated radiation detector; a radiation probe such as the FHZ512 or a contamination pancake probe such as the FHZ732. Utilises both STS Safe-Series technology to safely replicate radiation fields & also STS' proprietary gas sensing technology for simulation of contamination on surfaces.

Key Features & Applications • The FH40 controls and characteristics remain unchanged from the real instrument, button function is identical and the instrument has selectable alarm functions and audio output. • The simulator is built into a slightly deeper case than a standard FH40 and incorporates a built in Lithium-Ion battery which provides over 10 hours run time between charges. • Cross contamination and decontamination can easily be demonstrated. • Helps to limit the exposure of the trainer – if real sources are used, every training session poses an additional cumulative dose to the trainer, while the trainee receives only the dose resulting from the session attended.

Radiation Survey & Contamination Modes • Radiation Survey Mode: - A radiofrequency source, such as those shown, is placed in the training area and the simulated unit activated, the instrument then functions exactly as the real instrument does but is detecting the radio field not ionising radiation. - The simulators are able to replicate characteristic shielding and approximation to the inverse square law providing a very realistic training platform. - Attenuation of materials may be shown by placing the meter behind various shields such as plaster board, wood & glass. - The thickness and density of the material will vary the signal received and demonstrate the value of using shielding to protect the worker.  - The unit has an internal simulated detector which responds to the source and outputs the readings in uSv/hr - an artifical background may be selected and adjusted from the menu. - The Rate alarm threshold may also be set from the menu. -The telepole detector head (FHZ512) has detectors mounted inside giving an approximate 360 degrees of coverage. - When connected the FH40G will display EXT to indicate that readings dsiplayed are now from the external probe and not the internal detector. - The STS Safe-Mini source is particularly good for use with the extended telepole as it may be hidden easily out of sight.  - STS can supply either a probe for telepole mounting or one for use by hand on a 1.5m cable. • Contamination Mode: - The FH40G Dual meter can have a simulated contamination probe attached by way of a 4pin connector.  -STS have developed a simulated version of the Thermo FHZ732 pancake probe specifically for this meter. - The probe detects the gas given off by the STS LS1 simulant, which has been applied to the surface to be monitored.  - The readings when the unit is switched into Contamination Mode are displayed in CPS.
