| Realistic Training
with chemical agent monitors such as the Chemical Agent Monitor (CAM)
is difficult to achieve if real instruments are used, because there
are few simulants that are suited to routine use. Organizations are
sometimes concerned about degradation of their instruments while being
used in training.
Safe Training Systems (STS) technology has enabled
these problems to be overcome by the use of a simulator, coupled
with a simulated agent that is a real chemical. The simulation system
provides complete training in monitor operation and in understanding
the transfer and decontamination difficulties of Chemical Warfare
(CW) agents.
The STS CAM Simulator uses all the external components
of a military issue CAM, but uses STS technology for the detection
of the simulant.
The simulants supplied are entirely environmentally
and operator safe chemicals, which have characteristics similar
to real CW agents in that they will slowly evaporate at a rate dependant
on climate conditions, will be passed from surface to surface by
touch, and can be removed by standard decontamination processes.
